Lewis Named B1G Women’s Golfer of the Week

IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa freshman Riley Lewis has been named the Big Ten Women’s Golfer of the Week, it was announced Wednesday by the league office. It is the first honor of her career and the first by a Hawkeye this season.

The Illinois native earned the distinction after tallying the best finish of her career, tying for 13th place at the Momentum Transportation UNF Collegiate in Jacksonville, Florida, on March 6-7. Lewis fired a two-over par 216 (74-67-77) during the 54-hole tournament.

During the second round, Lewis carded a five-under par 67, which is tied for the second-lowest 18-hole score in school history, joining teammate Paula Miranda, Jessica Ip, Shelby Phillips and Brianna Coopman. During the round, she tallied four birdies and two eagles on the par five 14th and par five 16th holes.

Over 18 rounds this season, Lewis has a team-best 74.44 scoring average and she has posted two top 20 finishes. She has been at or below par in three of her nine rounds this spring.

Lewis is the first Hawkeye to be named the Big Ten Women’s Golfer of the Week since Paula Miranda earned the accolade on Oct. 13, 2021.

Iowa will be back in action on March 13-14, traveling to John’s Island, South Carolina, for the Briar’s Creek Invitational.
