Hawkeyes Post 3 Wins on Day 1 of Hurricane Invite

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Iowa track and field kicked off the outdoor season at the Hurricane Invitational hosted by Miami at Cobb Stadium on Friday with three event wins.

Seniors Kat Moody, Amanda Howe and Zach Pluff won their respective events. Moody earned her discus title with a 56.47-meter (185’ 3”) throw – good for the fourth best mark in program history. Howe was the hammer throw champion with a 63.13-meter (207’ 1”) mark, and Pluff cleared the 2.06-meter (6’ 9”) high jump to win.

Freshman Sean Smith registered the eighth-best hammer throw in his Hawkeye outdoor debut with a 60.79-meter (199’ 5”) mark.

The Hawkeyes return to Cobb Stadium on Saturday for day two of the Hurricane Invitational at 10 a.m. CT with the javelin.
