SPOKANE, Washington – University of Iowa senior Felicity Taylor went 5-0 and won the title at 53kg at the U23 USMC Women’s National Championship in Spokane, Washington, this weekend.
Competing for Team Iowa, Taylor started her weekend off with a 10-0 win via technical fall over New Jersey’s Izabella Frezzo to advance into the quarterfinals. Felicity continued with another 10-0 technical fall over Josie Bartishofski of Wisconsin to put herself in the semifinals match.
In her semifinals match against Texas’s Samara Chavez, Taylor racked up two push out points and two takedowns to win a 6-0 decision, securing her spot in the finals. In the best of three finals Taylor only needed two matches to get the job done. Taylor faced Estrella Dorado Marin of Colorado, winning 13-0 via technical fall in their first match and 10-0 via technical fall in the second and final match.
Taylor scored 26 team points for Iowa. On her way to first place, she outscored her opponents 49-0 with four out of her five matches being won by technical fall.
