Tobias Moves Up in Record Books

WACO, Texas – University of Iowa track and field junior Tionna Tobias moved up in the record books on day one of the Michael Johnson Invitational hosted by Baylor University on Friday.

Tobias jumped 6.25 meters (20″ 6.25″) to finish second in the long jump competition, setting her personal best and the fourth longest jump in program history.

Senior Julien Gillum and sophomore Nathan Farrell represented the Hawkeyes in the 400 hurdles, finishing first and third against collegiate competition and second and fourth overall, respectively.

The personal bests continued into the running events as freshman Audrey Biermann (24.16), freshman Julia Pattison (24.43), and sophomore Brynley McDermott (24.44) set their best marks in the women’s 200 meters and freshman Ellie Rickertsen ran the 400 hurdles in 1:02.29 to post her fastest time.

”Today, we made some great progress in the 200m and 400 hurdles,” Iowa Director of Track and Field Joey Woody said. “Ellie had a huge PR in the 400 hurdles to continue her great freshman year. I was very excited to see the improvements for all the men and women in the 200 with everyone running an outdoor PR. Damoy had a great race and took himself to a whole new level running under 21.0 for the first time in his career. Julien and Nathan both ran right at their PRs and are ready for a big breakthrough soon. I’m excited to keep this momentum building tomorrow.”

The Hawkeyes continue the Michael Johnson Invitational at Baylor on Saturday at noon CT.
