IOWA CITY, Iowa – Three University of Iowa women’s wrestlers – incoming freshman Haley Ward and freshmen Ella Schmit and Kylie Welker– will compete at the U20 Pan American Championships on Friday in Santiago, Chile.
Schmit (65 kg) will compete in a round robin against Evelyn Orta Gonzalez (Mexico), Jaeell Llontop Vasquez (Chile), Natalie Vecchio (Canada) and Gleymaris Beria Diaz (Venezuela).
Ward (72 kg) will compete in Group A against Karla Castillo Garcia (Venezuela) and Nubia Lorenzana Ballesteros (Mexico).
Welker (76 kg) will compete in a round robin against Maria De Almeida Dos Santos (Brazil), Karime Cortes Resendiz (Mexico), Myah Phillips (Canada) and Aomi Riques Morales (Peru)
The championships will take place at Centro Nacional de Entrenamiento Olimpico beginning at 9 a.m. (CT). Brackets, real-time results and a live stream will be provided by United World Wrestling at uww.org.
