Brianna Gonzalez Named Regional Women’s Wrestler of The Month

IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa women’s wrestling sophomore Brianna Gonzalez has been named the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) regional women’s wrestler of the month for region five, announced today by the organization.

Gonzalez is currently undefeated accumulating four pins and five technical falls. She is 3-0 against ranked opponents, including her victory over third-ranked Payton Stroud at the Missouri Valley Open, via an 8-2 decision.

The El Monte, California native shined in her Carver-Hawkeye Arena debut last month as well, putting 13 team points on the board with two tech. falls and one pin. With adding these three wins to her record, Gonzalez has wrestled her way to a fourth-ranked spot in the recent NWCA rankings.

The Hawkeyes will travel to Naperville, Illinois, this weekend to compete at the North Central College Invitational on Sunday. The tournament will be streamed live on the North Central Athletics website, and matches will be updated live on trackwrestling.com.
