Hawkeyes Sweep Warrior Duals

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The second-ranked University of Iowa women’s wrestling team defeated Campbellsville and Indiana Tech at the Warrior Duals on Friday Afternoon. They finished the day with 10 technical falls and seven pins.

The Hawkeyes started the afternoon with a, 42-2, win over ninth-ranked NAIA Campbellsville. Emilie Gonzalez and Ava Bayless opened the dual with tech. falls over their opponents. Brianna picked up her 12th pin of the season at 116 over Icart Galumette. Freshman Ava Rose followed that with a pin of her own in 2:20 over Josie Davis. At 136, Emmily Patneaud made her Hawkeye debut and won via decision, 4-0, over Gabriella Perez. Ella Schmit avenged her Missouri Valley Open loss to Emma Walker by pinning Walker in 2:24 at 143. Bella Mir and Haley Ward won via tech. falls at 155 and 170, respectively. Jaycee Foeller closed out the dual with a pin in 1:06 over Lexiana Garcia.

In the second dual of the day, Iowa defeated, 13th-ranked NAIA, Indiana Tech, 42-0. E. Gonzalez secured her second tech. fall of the day at 101 to open the dual. Bayless downed Tehani Soares at 109 via decision, 6-0. The Hawkeyes went on to win via tech. falls at 116, 123, 130 and 136. At 143, Schmit got her second pin of the afternoon and opened a chain of three straight pins for Iowa. Mir and Kylie Welker won via pins at 155 and 170, respectively. Foeller closed out the day at 191 and picked up Iowa’s 20th win of the day via tech. fall over Grace Doering.

It was great to see the girls get out there and put valuable points up on the board for our overall score, along with the girls individually working towards being ready for regionals. · Iowa’s win against Indiana Tech was their third shutout of the season.
· The Hawkeyes are 15-0 in dual competition this season.
· Hawkeye wrestlers finished the day with a record of 20-0.
· Seniors Emmily Patneaud and Sierra Brown Ton had their dual debuts as Hawkeyes at 136 pounds; Patneaud secured three points for the Hawkeyes and Brown Ton earned four.
· With only two duals on the day, Iowa still came in at third out of the 13 teams with the most pins in the least amount of time (7 in 13:05).

Iowa will return to action on Wednesday January 31 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The Hawkeyes will face the University of Sioux Falls in their final dual of the season. Action inside of the Stewart Center will begin at 6 p.m. CT.
