PREVIEWING THE HORNETS
• Head coach Melissa Genovese is in her 8th season leading the Hornets.
• Sacramento State has gone 2-8 overall in its 2024 season.
• This will be the first meeting between Iowa and Sacramento State under Coach Libby.
• The Hornets recently recorded the highest score in school history, 196.825, in their win over Air Force.
• Sophomore Kara Houghton recently set the school individual record with a 9.975 on bars.
•The Hornets are coming off a week where they swept the conference weekly awards for the second time this season. Sarah Lutrel earned gymnast of the week honors for the third time this season, Kara Houghton was named specialist of the week, and Jillianne Lastra was named freshman of the week.
LAST TIME OUT
• Iowa posted a team score of 196.225 at the Big Five, defeating No. 30 Maryland and finishing fourth overall in the meet.
• No. 11 Michigan finished in first place with a 197.500 followed by No. 21 Illinois (196.850) and No. 22 Penn State (196.775). The GymHawks finished in front of 30th-ranked Maryland (195.100).
• Sophomore Karina Muñoz led the way for the Hawkeyes, delivering an outstanding all-around performance scoring a career-high 39.550 and finishing third in the all-around.
• Muñoz had two second place finishes on bars and beam.
• Junior Ilka Juk took home the beam title, scoring a near-perfect 9.925.
