Notes: GymHawks Head to Ames

THIS WEEK

The University of Iowa women’s gymnastics team will head to Ames, Iowa to compete against Iowa State on Friday, March 8 for the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series.  Action inside of Hilton Coliseum will begin at 6:30 p.m. (CT).

IOWA CORN CY-HAWK SERIES

• The Cy-Hawk Series is in its 19th season in 2023-24 and is sponsored for the 12th time by Iowa Corn.  The Hawkeyes lead the 2024 Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series, 13-8.

• Iowa has victories in women’s soccer, football, men’s wrestling, women’s basketball, women’s swim and dive and women’s tennis thus far.

• The series awards two points (except football, which is worth three) to the winning school in each head-to-head match-up between the two institutions. Additionally, one point is awarded to an institution if the graduation rate of its student-athletes is greater than the national average as reported each fall by the NCAA.

PREVIEWING THE CYCLONES

• Head coach Ashley Miles Greg was named the eighth head coach in the history of the Iowa State women’s gymnastics program April 26, 2023.

• Iowa State has gone 7-9 overall and 2-2 in conference

competition in its 2024 season.

• The Cyclones most recently placed second place after posting a team score of 196.700 in Raleigh for a quad-meet.

• In the quad-meet, Iowa State’s top event came on the floor with a season high score 49.350. They also had a new season high on beam with a 49.325.

• Iowa State Freshman Noelle Adams has been named Big 12

Newcomer of the Week twice this season. She becomes the fourth Iowa State gymnast to earn this honor multiple times in a season.
