8 Hawkeyes Named NWCA Scholar All-Americans

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Eight University of Iowa women’s wrestling student-athletes have been named a National Wrestling Coaches Association Scholar All-American, it was announced Tuesday by the NWCA.

Iowa’s honorees include Ava Bayless, Emily Frost, Brianna Gonzalez, Emilie Gonzalez, Lilly Luft, Felicity Taylor, Kylie Welker and Haley Ward.

This award recognizes outstanding student-athletes who excel in both academics and athletics. A total of 199 scholar-athletes from 47 institutions nationwide were honored for their remarkable achievements.

On the mat each of these student-athletes helped the Hawkeyes to two national team titles and a 16-0 record in dual competition in their inaugural season. Most recently Iowa captured the 2024 NCWWC National Championship in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Bayless, E. Gonzalez, Taylor and Welker each won individual national titles and earned NCWWC all-American honors. B. Gonzalez (second place) and Luft (fifth place) both earned all-American honors as well.
