Hawkeyes Host Wisconsin, Travel to No. 15 Rutgers

THIS WEEK
The No. 9 University of Iowa soccer team is set to host Wisconsin on Thursday at 7:00 p.m (CT) at Iowa Soccer Complex. Iowa then hits the road to travel to Piscataway, N.J. where they take on No. 15 Rutgers at 1:00 p.m. on Oct. 13th at Miller Family Soccer Complex.

SCOUTING THE BADGERS
– The Badgers sit at 5-3-4 in the season and 1-2-3 in conference play. Wisconsin currently sits in a tie for eighth place in the Big Ten standings.
– Wisconsin is led by Aryssa Mahrt with seven goals on the season to go along with a pair of assists. No other Badger has over one goal on the season. Mahrt has 16 points on the season while the next closest Badger has six.
– Mahrt has 39 shots with 27 of them on goal (.692). Mahrt’s 39 shots on the season ranks seventh amongst Big Ten players. Mahrt also leads the Badgers with two game winning goals.
– Ashley Martinez leads the Badgers with four assists. Martinez has one goal on the season.
– Wisconsin goalkeeper Drew Stover has started all 12 games for the Badgers. Stover has allowed 12 goals on the season averaging one goal allowed per game. Stover has 35 saves on the season with a save percentage of .745. The junior goalkeeper was posted four shutouts on the season.
– Iowa will be the third ranked opponent the Badgers take on this season. Wisconsin is 0-2 against ranked opponents so far this season. The Badgers fell to No. 3 BYU, 0-1, and No. 24 USC, 0-3.

SERIES HISTORY – WISCONSIN
The Hawkeyes trail the Badgers in the all-time series, 7-17-5. The first matchup between the two programs took place in 1997 where the Badgers defeated the Hawkeyes, 2-0. In the last matchup between the two programs Iowa came out on top defeating Wisconsin, 1-0. The last time Iowa won two straight games against Wisconsin was 2011/2012.

SCOUTING THE SCARLET KNIGHTS
– The Scarlet Knights come in with an 8-1-3 record including an undefeated 4-0-2 record in conference play. Rutgers is in a three-way tie for fourth place in the Big Ten.
– Rutgers is led by a trio of players. Allie Post leads the team with four goals while Riley Tiernan and Shaela Bradley each have three goals a piece. Tiernan leads the team with 40 shots and has put 13 of them on goal (.325). Post leads the Scarlet Knights in shot on goal percentage with 11 of her 17 shots being on goal (.647).
– Tiernan leads the team with seven assists which ranks tied for second in the Big Ten.
– Iowa will be the third ranked opponent Rutgers has faced this season where they are 0-0-2 against ranked teams. The Scarlet Knights forced a draw against No. 1 Michigan State and No. 19 Michigan State.
– Rutgers is yet to lose a game at home this season. Rutgers is one of seven Big Ten teams to be undefeated at home this year, including Iowa.

SERIES HISTORY – RUTGERS
The Scarlet Knights lead the all-time series against Iowa, 4-7-0. Last season Iowa defeated Rutgers at Iowa Soccer Complex. The first meeting between the two programs came in 2003 where the Hawkeyes defeated Rutgers, 2-1, in Iowa City.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
– Bush, Enneking and Greer were named Big Ten Players to Watch. The Hawkeyes were ranked eighth in the Big Ten Preseason Poll. Enneking is a United Soccer Coaches national preseason honoree and was named to the Mac Hermann Trophy Watch List
– Millie Greer (#39) and midfielder Sofia Bush (#87) were ranked top-100 freshmen at the end of the season by Top Drawer Soccer.
– The Hawkeyes have won nine of their last 10 games. The one game the Hawkeyes didn’t win over the 10-game period was a tie at No. 17 Ohio State, 1-1.
– Macy Enneking, Maggie Johnston and graduate-student Rielee Fetty were voted team captains.

LAST WEEK
The Hawkeyes had just one game last week and they took care of business. The Hawkeyes defeated Indiana, 1-0, at Iowa Soccer Complex. The first half was a defensive battle leaving the game a scoreless tie at the break. In the 73rd minute Maya Hansen gave the Hawkeyes a lead of an assist from Meike Ingles. The goal was Hansen’s fifth goal of the season, the second most on the team. The assist marked Ingles fourth of the season which leads the team. The Hawkeye defense posted their seventh shutout of the season, Macy Enneking had two saves for the Hawkeyes.

DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS
– Iowa held a six-game shutout earlier this season, which was a program record for consecutive shutouts.
– The Hawkeyes saves percentage of .842 is tied for 34th in the nation and fifth in the Big Ten.
– The Hawkeyes have allowed two goals in the second half all season. Both goals came off penalty kicks.
– Iowa has allowed just six goals so far this season. The current record for least goals allowed in a season is 16 in 2020.

A KEEPER!
Macy Enneking has started all five years at Iowa, anchoring the team to two NCAA Tournament appearances and a pair of conference tournament championships.
– Enneking is the first Hawkeye named to the Mac Hermann Trophy Watch List and the first Iowa player featured on the United Soccer Coaches Players to Watch List.
-Enneking has 28.5 career shutouts, passing former Hawkeye Hannah Clark (2012-15), to become the school’s all-time leader in shutouts.
– Enneking needs two victories to tie the all-time school’s record for career victories, currently being held by former Hawkeye Claire Graves (2016-19).
– Enneking became the first Hawkeye to win Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week three times in a career and the first Hawkeye to win the award in back-to-back weeks.
– Enneking has 6.5 shutouts on the season which ranks tied for 7th in the single season record books. Enneking needs one shutout to move to third for most shutouts in a single season. Hannah Clark currently leads the record book when she had 10 shutouts in 2013.
– Enneking’s 10 victories this season also ranks tied for seventh in the single season record book. Hannah Clark also leads that with 15 victories in 2013.

A SPECIAL SEASON
– The Hawkeyes sit in a three-way tie for first place in the Big Ten. The lowest Big Ten regular season finish in program history came in 2019 when the Hawkeyes finished third. The Hawkeyes have never won the Big Ten regular season. The last time the Hawkeyes finished top four in the conference was 2021.
– The Hawkeyes currently sit at 6-0-0 on the season at home with three home games left. The most home victories in regular season history came in 2019 when the Hawkeyes won nine.
– At 10-0-3 the Hawkeyes are off to the best start in program history. The longest unbeaten streak was previously in 2011 when the Hawkeyes went 12 games without suffering a loss.
– No. 9 is the highest ranking in program history.

– 11 Hawkeyes have scored goals in the 2024 season. Berit Parten (6), Maya Hansen (5), Meike Ingles (4), Sofia Bush (3), Berkely Binggeli (2), Kenzie Roling, Lauren Geczik, Elle Otto, Rielee Fetty, Maggie Johnston, and Millie Greer all have one goal this season.
– 10 different Hawkeyes have assists this season. Meike Ingles leads the team with four. Sofia Bush, Kenzie Roling, and Lauren Geczik all have three. Elle Otto and Rielee Fetty each have two whole four other Hawkeyes have one.
– Of the 26 goals scored this season, 14 have come from newcomers.

FRESHMAN SENSATION
– Berit Parten has scored a goal in five of the last seven games. Parten has scored six goals across those seven games (FGCU, No. 18 Wake Forest, Baylor, Iowa State, Illinois).
– Parten leads Iowa in goals (6), points (12), shots (33), and shots on goal (18).
– Parten was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week earlier this season. Parten was the 12th Hawkeye to be named Freshman of the Week and the first Hawkeye to win the award since Kenzie Roling in 2021.

2 FOR THE MONEY
Iowa’s record is 52-2-3 in its last 57 games when scoring two goals or more, which dates back to October of 2017. The Hawkeyes are 9-0 this year in multi-goal games.

90 TRACKER
Rielee Fetty, Millie Greer, and Maggie Johnston were the three Hawkeye position players to record 90 minutes against Indiana. 16 Hawkeyes registered minutes in the 1-0 victory over the Hoosiers.

UP NEXT
