Iowa Hosts Year-End Banquet

The Iowa men’s tennis team celebrated the 2002-03 season byhonoring its athletes at the team’s annual awards banquet at the Highlander Inn.Seniors Stuart Waters, Hunter Skogman and Pete Rose took top honors by receivingTeam Most Valuable Player for the second consecutive year.

Waters, a two-time all-Big Ten selection, led the Hawkeyes in dual meet wins for thesecond consecutive season, finishing the year with an 11-6 record. He also excelled in doublescompetition with Skogman, posting a 12-6 overall record and a 6-4 record in Big Ten play at theNo. 1 position.

Skogman stepped into the No. 2 singles position this season to post a 10-8 dual recordand led the Hawkeyes in Big Ten victories for the second straight year with a 5-5 record.Rose made the biggest jump in the singles lineup from the No. 6 to No. 3 position. Herecorded key victories during the conference season, clinching match point in Iowa’s win overMichigan and claiming a third-set victory to help the Hawkeyes defeat then 37th-ranked Indiana.

Rose also teamed with freshman Chaitu Malempati at the No. 3 doubles position to help Iowaclinch several key doubles points. Rose was also the recipient of the John Winnie Scholar-Athlete Award.
