Iowa Stuns Ohio State

The University of Iowa women’s tennis team got a huge winover Big Ten opponent Ohio State Sunday. Iowa celebrated the last home meet in thecareers of Steffi Hoch and Cassie Haas with the victory.

The Hawkeyes again lost the doubles point. Senior Steffi Hoch and sophomoreGloria Okino fell to Ohio State’s Sadhaf Pervez and Lindsay Williams at the No. 1position (8-5), while juniors Cassie Haas and Deni Alexandrova were downed by JackieLeskovar and Erica Fisk at No. 2 (8-4). Junior Jennifer Hodgman and freshmanChelsea Glynn topped the Buckeyes’ Meaghan Colville and Lindsay Adams at the No. 3spot (8-6).

Iowa stormed back to win four singles matches. Hoch dominated No. 46 rankedPervez at the No. 1 spot (6-2, 6-1), while Haas downed Fisk at No. 2 (7-6 (3), 6-1).Okino topped Leskovar at No. 3 by a score of 6-3, 6-3. Glynn fell to Williams at No. 4(6-2, 6-4), but Alexandrova dominated Emily DeCamilla at No. 5 to seal the teamvictory (6-1, 6-1). Hodgman fell in a three set match to Ohio State’s Lindsay Bryan atthe No. 6 position (6-2, 4-6, 6-3).

It appears that Iowa is gearing up at the right time. The Hawkeyes will next be inaction when they travel to Champaign, IL, for the Big Ten Tournament. The tournamentruns from Thursday, April 24 – Sunday, April 27, and will be held at the Atkins TennisCenter and the Illini Grove Courts.
