Iowa Advances Four Boats To Grand Finals

OAK RIDGE, TN – The University of Iowa women’s rowing team finished the first dayof competition in the 2003 Lexus Central/South Sprints. The Hawkeyes advanced the FirstVarsity Four, Second Varsity Four and Second Varsity Eight to the Grand Finals, while the FirstVarsity Eight advanced to the Petite Final. The regatta is hosted by the University of Tennesseeon Melton Hill Lake.

The Hawkeyes’ Second Varsity Eight and First Varsity Four each won its respectiveheats to advance to the Grand Finals in times of 6:33.6 and 7:27.0, respectively. Iowa’s SecondVarsity Four finished second in its heat with a time of 7:28.9 to advance to the afternoon’srepechage. It would later place second behind Michigan with a time of 7:32.8 enabling it toadvance to the Grand Finals tomorrow morning.

Iowa’s First Varsity Eight placed second in its heat, crossing the finish line with a time of6:30.4. It later finished fourth in the repechage with a time of 6:28.0 to claim a spot in the PetiteFinal.

The First Varsity Eight Petite Final is slated for a 9:10 a.m. start. The Second VarsityEight Grand Final is scheduled to begin at 9:20 a.m., the First Varsity Four Grand Final will startat 9:40 a.m., while the Second Varsity Four is slated for a 10 a.m. start.
