OAK RIDGE, TN – The University of Iowa women’s rowing team completed the final day ofcompetition in the 2003 Lexus Central/South Sprints. The Hawkeyes had three boats finish third in theGrand Finals and another place first in the Petite Finals. The regatta was hosted by the University ofTennessee on Melton Hill Lake.
As a team, Iowa finished fifth in the overall team standings. Ohio State won the Central/SouthSprints with 76 points. Virginia placed second (70), followed by three consecutive Big Ten squadsMichigan (67), Michigan State (58) and Iowa (52). The Hawkeyes finished fourth among Central Regionteams, as Virginia is from the South Region.
Iowa’s Second Varsity Eight, First Varsity Four and Second Varsity Four all finished third intoday’s Grand Finals. The Hawkeyes’ Second Varsity Eight finished in a time of 6:34.9. Iowa’s FirstVarisity Four crossed the finish line in a time of 7:11.8, while the Second Varsity Four recorded a time of7:26.2. The Hawkeyes’ First Varsity Eight won the Petite Final in a time of 6:27.2.
