Hawkeyes to Compete at Jim Colbert Intercollegiate

Sept. 26, 2003

THIS WEEK — The Iowa men’s golf team will travel to Manhattan, KS to compete in the Jim Colbert Invitational Monday and Tuesday. The eight-team tournament is being hosted by Kansas State University, and will be played on the par 72 Colbert Hills Golf Course. The first round will begin Monday with 36 holes, and finish with the final 18 on Tuesday.

LAST WEEK — The Hawkeyes finished 15th last week at the Northern Intercollegiate in Ann Arbor, MI. Leading the Hawkeyes was freshman Jon Feldick, who finished 18th. Todd Larson also placed well, finishing tied for 29th.

THE ROSTER — Competing for the Hawkeyes this week are freshmen Jon Feldick and Todd Larson, junior Brian deBuhr, sophomore Robby Storm and senior Matt Larson. Freshman Bennet Hammerberg will compete individually.

COACH TERRY ANDERSON — Anderson is in his eleventh year as Iowa’s head coach. Anderson lettered four times in golf at Iowa State. He also serves as the Director of Golf at Iowa’s Finkbine Golf Course. The Iowa Golf Association named him 1998 PGA professional of the year.

QUOTING COACH ANDERSON — “I think we improved a lot from week one to week two. Even though we placed 15th, we were only 12 shots out of fourth place, which is only one stroke less per player, per round,” said Anderson. “This week in practice I really stressed to the guys that when they get into trouble, get out of it in one shot. Instead of making a bad decision to try and force a shot when it’s not there, we need to concentrate on getting out of trouble with just one shot. The competition this weekend is going to be too good not to play smart.”
