The Iowa women’s tennis team completed the second day of the Furman Invitational with five wins. Hillary Mintz, Gloria Okino, Hilary Tyler, Hilde Jansma each had individual wins, while Mintz and Tyler won a doubles match.

Tyler won the flight five semi-finals against Jacqueline Eckert of Furman, 7-6 (3), 4-6, 6-4. She will compete tomorrow morning for the championship against Fallon Koon of South Carolina.

In doubles play, Mintz and Tyler won 8-4 against Wisconsin’s Teresa Gonzaga and Lexi Goldin to take fifth place in flight three.

Okino defeated Laura McNamara of Middle Tennessee State, 7-5, 6-7 (4), 6-0. She will compete tomorrow for fifth place in flight four singles against Sasha Abraham of Penn State.

Mintz recorded a victory over Penn State’s Leigh Ann Merryman, 6-7 (3), 6-4, 6-3. Tomorrow she will play Carien Venter of Middle Tennessee State for fifth place in flight three singles.

Freshman Jansma won over Wisconsin’s Teresa Gonzaga, 6-2, 7-5, to earn a chance at fifth place in flight six singles.

The Furman Invitational will continue tomorrow beginning at 9:00 a.m. (ET).
