Two University of Iowa field hockey players were named Big Ten Players of the Week Monday. Senior forward Pattie Gillern won the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week award, while junior goalkeeper Barb Weinberg was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week.

Gillern, from Medford, NJ, was also named co-national Player of the Week by womensfieldhockey.com. She scored five goals against Southwest Missouri State on Sunday, just one short of the Iowa single game record. Gillern also scored the game-winning goal in Iowa’s 1-0 win over No. 6 Penn State.

Weinberg, from Louisville, KY, earned Big Ten honors for the second-straight week after recording a pair of shutouts over Penn State and Southwest Missouri State. The junior made 10 saves on the weekend and allowed only one goal, which came in Iowa’s 2-1 overtime win over No. 17 California.

The Hawkeyes (8-2, 1-0) will return to action Saturday against fifth-ranked Michigan. The game is set for 11 a.m. at Oaker Field in Ann Arbor, MI.
