Former Hawkeye Qualifies for Olympics

October 1, 2003

Former Hawkeye swimmer Marko Milenkovic has qualified for the 2004 Olympics in the 400 Individual Medley. Marko will be representing his home country of Slovenia for the second time, as he also competed at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia.

While at the University of Iowa (1998-2002) Milenkovic represented the Hawkeyes at the NCAA Championships and was an academic all-Big Ten selection. He holds the Field House record in the 400 individual medley.

The University of Iowa’s men swimming program has now had at least one athlete in every Olympic Games since 1976. Fifteen Hawkeyes and two coaches have competed in the Olympic Games, and five Iowa swimmers have won Olympic medals (one gold, two silver and two bronze.)
