Hawkeyes Compete in Shoot-out at Legends

THIS WEEK — The women’s golf team travels to Franklin, IN, to compete in the Shoot-out at the Legends. The 18 team tournament will be held at the par-72 Legends of Indiana Golf Course. The tournament will start off with 36 holes Monday followed by a final 18 on Tuesday.

LAST WEEK- The Hawkeyes finished tied for 13th at the Lady Northern Invitational. Leading the way for Iowa was junior Liz Bennett. Bennett fired a three-round total of 232, which was good enough for 22nd place. Senior Laura Holmes carded a 241.

LAST YEAR AT THE SHOOT-OUT– Last season at the Shoot-out at the Legends, the Hawkeyes finished 14th. The Hawkeyes were led by Laura Holmes, who shot a 54-hole score of 230.

HEAD WOMEN’S COACH Bobbe Carney — Coach Carney begins her second year as coach of the Hawkeyes. Her resume is highlighted, most notably, by being named LPGA Midwest Section Coach of the Year in 1989. In 2001, she was named a Top 50 Instructor by Golf For Women magazine.

BENNETT LEADS HAWKEYES — Junior Liz Bennett has led the Hawkeyes in every tournament came this season. Bennett leads Iowa in almost all statistical categories including rounds played, scoring average, and has shot the lowest single round of the season. Her best performance came at the Redbird Classic where she tied for fifth place after firing a 54-hole total of 226. Her total included a second par 71.

NEXT WEEK– The Hawkeyes will compete in the Marilyn Smith/Sunflower Invitational, which will be their final competition of the Fall season. The tournament will be held on Monday and Tuesday In Wichita, KS.
