Hawks Travel to Midwest Regionals

THIS WEEK: The Iowa women’s tennis team will travel to Kalamazoo, MI for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Regionals Thursday thru next Tuesday. Main draw matches will be played at Western Michigan’s West Hills Athletic Club with consolation matches played at Kalamazoo College’s Markin Racquet Center.

THE COMPETITION: Nearly 200 student-athletes will be competing. Every Big Ten school, except Penn State, will be at the tournament.

THE HAWKEYES: Competing for the Hawkeyes will be senior Jennifer Hodgman and freshmen Hilde Jansma, Hillary Mintz, Meg Racette and Hilary Tyler. Racette and Mintz will team up for doubles, as will Tyler and Jansma.

LAST TOURNAMENT: At the Hoosier Classic (Oct. 3-5), Mintz finished second in the Flight C singles bracket. In Flight E singles, Tyler placed fourth and Jansma took sixth. In doubles competition, Tyler and Mintz won two matches to finish fifth in Flight One.

QUOTING COACH WARDLAW: “The regional tournament offers our players a great opportunity to play against the best in the Midwest. The tournament also serves as a great barometer for where we are relative to the rest of the Big Ten and other regional teams.”

HEAD COACH WARDLAW: Paul Wardlaw is in his seventh season as head coach of the Iowa women’s tennis program. Wardlaw has compiled a record of 69-66 (.511) and a career record of 319-141 (.693). Under his direction, the Hawkeyes have made three NCAA tournament appearances.
