The Iowa women’s tennis team won seven matches during day one of the ITA Midwest Regionals. Hawkeyes Hillary Mintz, Jennifer Hodgman and Meg Racette are all one match away from qualifying for the main draw.

In the first qualifying round, Mintz won her match against Lexi Goldin of Wisconsin, 6-1, 6-3. Hodgman defeated Maria Blanco of Southern Illinois, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2. Hilary Tyler won against Ohio State’s Meredith Vincent, 6-1, 7-6 (2). In her first match for the Hawkeyes, Meg Racette defeated Amalia Lincaru of Eastern Michigan, 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-3.

In the second qualifying round, three Hawkeyes posted victories. Mintz defeated Michigan’s Debra Streifler in two sets, 6-1, 6-3. Hodgman continued her winning streak by downing Michigan State’s Shelley Brady, 7-6 (3), 0-6, 6-3. Racette captured the seventh Iowa victory, easily defeating Monica Riberto of Toledo, 6-1, 6-0.

The Hawkeyes will continue play at the ITA Midwest Regionals tomorrow.
