White Team Tops Black Squad, 48-45, At Hoop It Up

IOWA CITY – The Iowa women’s basketball team opened its 2003-04 season with its annual “Hoop It Up” Saturday morning in Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The White Team defeated the Black Team, 48-45, in the Hawkeyes’ first public appearance to tip-off the season.

Pacing the White Team were senior Jennie Lillis and sophomore Lindsay Richards. Lillis posted game highs in points (16) and rebounds (7) and also dished out four assists. Richards scored 14 points and collected four assists. Sophomore Tiffany Reedy and junior Lindsay Geoffroy scored six points and grabbed four rebounds each. Freshman Deb Remmerde tallied four points and collected three rebounds, while sophomore Morgan Kasperek scored two points and pulled down four rebounds.

Leading the Black Team was senior Becca McCann. The native of Saginaw, MI, scored 10 of her team-high 14 points, in the second half. She also collected a team-high six rebounds. Sophomore Crystal Smith was Iowa’s fourth Hawkeye to score in double figures. Smith recorded 10 points and collected three steals. Junior Jenna Armstrong added seven points. Junior Johanna Solverson and senior Kristi Faulkner scored six points each. Solverson also pulled down five rebounds, collected three steals and two assists. Junior Jamie Cavey scored two points to round out the Iowa scoring. Cavey also dished out a game-high six assists and grabbed three rebounds.

Iowa returns to action on Nov. 6, when the Hawkeyes host Athletes In Action in an exhibition game at 7:05 p.m. in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
