David Mazur, a member of the University of Iowa’s men’s swimming team, has been added to the McLeodUSA StarHawks team.
A senior from Middleton, WI, Mazur competes in both freestyle and butterfly events and is, according to UI Head Coach John Davey, one of the “hardest working and dedicated” swimmers on the team.
“(David) is very supportive of his teammates. Hard work and dedication are obviously the kinds of qualities you want in a team captain, and David definitely provides that kind of leadership to our team.”

“In fact,” Davey said. “In his freshman year, David was the recipient of the Glenn Patton Award, which is given each year to the hardest worker on the team, and if anything his work ethic has increased over the years.”
Mazur was also selected team captain for the second year running.
“That tells you how much respect his teammates have for him,” Davey added. “He’s very supportive of his teammates. Hard work and dedication are obviously the kinds of qualities you want in a team captain, and David definitely provides that kind of leadership to our team.”
An economics major, Mazur is also a good student. “David is just a fine young man all the way around,” said Davey. “It’s been a pleasure having him on our team.”
The StarHawks program is an initiative funded in part by McLeodUSA, a leading telecommunications company with corporate headquarters in Cedar Rapids and a long-time member of the UI’s Partners in Excellence corporate sponsorship program. The StarHawks team is a collection of student-athletes at the University of Iowa who truly represent the very best the intercollegiate athletics program at the UI has to offer. StarHawks typically excel athletically and academically, and also are active in community or leadership activities.
