ESPN: Iowa No. 17

Nov. 16, 2003

This week’s ESPN poll

Coach Kirk Ferentz’s Iowa Hawkeyes moved up three places in this week’s ESPN/USA Today Top 25, checking in at No. 17 after handing last week’s No. 17 — Minnesota — a 40-22 drubbing Saturday before another sellout crowd inside historic Kinnick Stadium.

Iowa travels to Madison, WI, next Saturday for a date with Wisconsin. Kickoff is set for shortly after 2:30 p.m. and the game will be televised live to a regional audience by ABC-TV. The Hawkeyes will be looking for win No. 9 in 2003; Wisconsin will be eyeing victory No. 8. Both teams will be looking to improve their lot in this year’s post-season bowl game bonanza.

The Hawkeyes are one of five Big Ten teams included in ESPN’s elite list. Ohio State (4th), Michigan (5th), Purdue (16th), and Minnesota (21st) complete the list. Oklahoma, Southern Cal and LSU were Nos. 1, 2 and 3, respectively.
