IOWA CITY – Four University of Iowa field hockey players were named to the 2003 STX/NFHCA Division I All-West Region team today. Senior forward Pattie Gillern and junior goalkeeper Barb Weinberg were named to the first team, while senior midfielder Lindsay Miller and junior back Lauren Stiver were named to the second team.
Gillern, from Medord, NJ, led the Hawkeyes with 32 points and 15 goals this season. She was a first team all-Big Ten selection.
Weinberg, from Louisville, KY, was a first team all-Big Ten selection for the second-consecutive year. She started every game in goal for the Hawkeyes, posting a 1.35 goals against average and a .803 save percentage. Weinberg also tallied six shutouts on the season. She was a second team all-West Region pick last year.
Miller, a native of Gap, PA, was a second team all-Big Ten selection this season after scoring 12 points on three goals and six assists.
Stiver, from Amherst, NY, made the all-West Region second team for the second-straight year. She was a second team all-Big Ten selection for the third time this season, and anchored the Hawkeye defense that ranked at the top of the Big Ten the entire regular season.
Iowa finished the season with an 11-8 record.
