Back-to-back?

Iowa will be looking for win No. 9 and to climb another rung up the bowl game ladder when it travels to Madison Saturday for a 2:30 p.m. date with Wisconsin. ABC-TV will provide live regional television coverage.

It’s certainly worth talking about, according to Trev Alberts of ESPN, when it comes to Kirk Ferentz and Big Ten Conference Coach of the Year honors. Alberts argues Ferentz’s name belongs in the mix because of what the Hawkeyes lost to graduation and the NFL after last year’s FedEx Orange Bowl and the hurdles they’ve cleared to get to 8-3 with one game remaining in this year’s regular season.

The options are many when it comes to Iowa and its bowl game future. Everything from the 2004 Capital One Bowl to the 2003 Motor City event are in play, depending on who beats who, Bowl Championship Series standings and more. One thing is for certain, however: The Hawkeyes will be bowling for the third straight year under Ferentz.

“It’s a tribute to our guys — and particular the senior class — that we’re in the position we’re in. They’ve hung tough and battled and persevered. We have one more game to go and it’s going to be a great challenge, but I suspect we’ll come ready to play and give it a solid shot,” Ferentz said.
