Senior offensive tackle Robert Gallery has been named first team all-American by the Football Writers of America.

Iowa wide receiver Calvin Davis and offensive lineman Mike Jones have also been named to the Rivals.com Freshman all-America team. Both were named to the group’s honorable mention unit.

Gallery, a 6-7, 320-pounder from Masonville, IA, allowed only one sack during Iowa’s 9-3 2003 regular season. He was named first-team all-Big Ten for the second straight year earlier this week and was also named winner of the 2003 Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year award.

Gallery is a semi-finalist for this year’s Outland Trophy, which goes to the nation’s top interior lineman.

Davis, a redshirt freshman from Iowa City, caught 23 passes for 330 yards and a touchdown. Jones, a true-freshman from Oak Lawn, IL, started the final six games at offensive guard.

A member of Iowa’s Leadership Council, Robert Gallery is on pace to receive quite a few honors, trophies and certificates this year including his diploma this spring.

The Hawkeyes had two offensive linemen named first team all-Americans last year. They were Bruce Nelson and Eric Steinbach. Both currently playing in the NFL.

Gallery, Davis and Jones and their teammates are eagerly awaiting their bowl game assignment. Most figure Coach Kirk Ferentz’s ’03 Iowa squad will land in either the Capital One Bowl, the Outback Bowl, or the MasterCard Alamo Bowl when this year’s line-up is finalized.
