Coach Steve Alford and the 2003-04 Iowa Hawkeyes woke up this morning well rested from a night’s sleep in Cedar Falls, site of tonight’s game against Northern Iowa. Tipoff is scheduled for shortly after 7 p.m.

And, also, the Hawkeyes woke up as a nationally ranked basketball team — Iowa checked in at No. 24 in this week’s Associated Press Top 25.

Florida sits atop the topsy-turvy world known as men’s college basketball with a 5-0 record a 46 first place votes. Connecticut, Missouri, Duke and Kansas completed the top five.

The Big Ten dominated the back 15, with Illinois (14th), Purdue (16th), Michigan State (21st), Wisconsin (24th) claiming positions ahead of the Hawkeyes, who will carry a perfect 6-0 record into tonight’s second of three games with intrastate rivals.
