Special Events Are Special

Jan. 23, 2004

Friends and fans of the football and baseball programs are excited and are proving it by signing up at a record pace for two special events to be staged by the UI Athletic Department in February.

The first Iowa Baseball Lead-Off Dinner is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 2, at the Sheraton Hotel in Downtown Iowa City. This special event provides participants an opportunity to meet Iowa’s new basebal coach, Jack Dahm, his staff and the 2004 Iowa Hawkeyes. It also offers an opportunity to enjoy presentations from Jim Hendry, general manager of the Chicago Cubs, and Wes Obermueller, a former Hawkeye who is now pitching for the Milwaukee Brewers.

Sunday’s schedule for FanFest 2004 includes a keynote address by Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz.

Fans interested in more information about the 2004 Iowa Baseball Lead-Off Dinner can call the Iowa Baseball Office (319) 335-9329 or the UI Sports Marketing Office at (319) 335-9431.

The 2004 Iowa Football FanFest is scheduled for Feb. 13-15. This year’s event follows on the footsteps of last year’s inaugural event. It includes many of the same opportunities as last year — “Chalk Talks” presented by members of the Iowa football coaching staff, private autograph and photograph sessions with the 2003 Iowa Hawkeyes, and other special events like a silent auction featuring souvenirs and memorabilia available exclusively at FanFest.
