Hawkeyes Travel to Vanderbilt

This Week: The Iowa women’s tennis team travels to Vanderbilt this weekend. On Saturday, the Hawkeyes will compete against the Clemson Tigers at 10 a.m. Iowa will then take on Vanderbilt on Sunday at noon.

The Tigers: The Tigers are ranked 13th in the country with a 4-0 record. Clemson has recorded victories over No. 14 Virginia Commonwealth, No. 35 Baylor, No. 47 South Carolina and Charleston.

The Commodores: The Commodores are 5-0 and ranked sixth in the country. Vanderbilt has won 7-0 against No. 10 Duke, No. 33 Virginia, No. 35 Baylor and Michigan State. The Commodores also won 5-2 against No. 74 Arkansas.

Last Weekend: The Hawkeyes won against No. 30 Georgia Tech, 4-3. Iowa lost the doubles point, but were able to secure the top four singles matches to stage the upset. The Hawkeyes also defeated No. 41 Kansas State, 6-1. Iowa won the doubles point and five of the singles matches.

In the Rankings: The Hawkeyes are ranked 68th in the ITA Rankings. The rankings are voted on by every member of the ITA Regional Committee.

Quoting Coach Wardlaw: “We’ll experience a number of season firsts this weekend — our first road trip and our first matches against top 20 teams. Both Clemson and Vanderbilt have veteran teams with NCAA Tournament experience. We’ll find out how we stack up against the best in the country and I expect us to learn a lot about our strengths and weaknesses.”
