This Week: The Iowa women’s tennis team concludes regular season competition this weekend on the road. The Hawkeyes travel to Ohio State Friday with competition beginning at 1:30 p.m. (CST). Iowa will take on Penn State Sunday starting at 10 a.m. (CST).
In the Rankings: The Hawkeyes are 39th in the latest ITA Rankings. Freshman Meg Racette is Iowa’s highest ranked individual (t111th).
The Buckeyes: The Buckeyes are ranked 54th with an 8-12 overall record and a 3-5 Big Ten record. Ohio State has Big Ten wins over Penn State, Michigan State and Purdue. Senior Lindsay Williams is the Buckeyes’ top player.
The Nittany Lions: The Nittany Lions have compiled a 6-14 record with an 0-8 Big Ten mark. Senior Leigh Ann Merryman is Penn State’s top player. She has a 13-17 record at the No. 1 singles position.
Last Weekend: The Hawkeyes lost to Indiana (7-0). Deni Alexandrova and Anastasia Zhukova won at No. 2 doubles, but Iowa was unable to take the doubles point. In singles, the Hawkeyes had matches go three sets at the No. 1, 2 and 6 spots.
Quoting Coach Wardlaw: “Both matches will be crucial for us in determining our seed at the Big Ten tournament next week. The home teams have been playing well, so once again I expect tight matches and close finishes.”
