Iowa Finishes Eighth at Big Ten Championships

COLUMBUS, OH – The University of Iowa women’s golf team shot a 317 in the final day of competition in the Big Ten Championships. The Hawkeyes finished the tournament in eighth with a score of 1253. Ohio State defended their home course and came away with the team title after shooting a tournament low round score of 293 in the final day of competition. The Buckeyes who led the tournament after every round accept yesterday’s third round stormed away from the field, winning by 17 strokes.

Leading the way for the Hawkeyes was junior Liz Bennett. Bennett fired a four-round total of 313 to finish the competition in 20th. Senior Laura Holmes and freshman Amy Riepma shot 72-hole totals of 316 to tie for 24th. Senior Jennifer Reints and junior Shannon Fleming both totaled 319 strokes over the weekend to finish tied for 33rd. Freshman Virginie Bonfils carded a 334, which tied her for 58th. Indiana’s Danah Ford came away with the individual title. Ford carded a 72-hole total of 287, five strokes ahead of Ohio State’s Allison Hanna who took second.
