This Week: The Iowa women’s tennis team travels to the Big Ten tournament Thursday through Sunday. Competition will take place at Northwestern at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center or at the Combe Tennis Center, in case of inclement weather. The Hawkeyes will start the tournament against Minnesota beginning at 2 p.m. Thursday.

The Tournament: Iowa comes into the tournament as the seventh seed. If the Hawkeyes defeat Minnesota, they will take on second-seeded Indiana Friday starting at 2 p.m.

In the Rankings: The Hawkeyes are 40th in the latest ITA Rankings. Freshman Meg Racette is Iowa’s highest ranked individual (106th).

The Golden Gophers: The Golden Gophers come into the Big Ten tournament as the 10th seed. Minnesota has a 3-18 mark, going 1-9 in the Big Ten. Angela Buergis is ranked 61st nationally for Minnesota. The Hawkeyes narrowly beat the Golden Gophers earlier this season, 4-3.

Last Weekend: The Hawkeyes lost to Ohio State, 5-2. Meg Racette and Hillary Mintz recorded singles wins against the Buckeyes. Iowa then defeated Penn State, 6-1. The Hawkeyes won every singles match, giving up only one set. In doubles, the duo of Racette and Mintz won the No. 1 match.
