Former Hawkeye Marcia Pankratz Named to USFHA Hall of Fame

IOWA CIT Y – Former University of Iowa field hockey player Marcia Pankratz will be one of seven players inducted into the United States Field Hockey Association Hall of Fame on June 12 at the USFHA Hall of Fame in Collegeville, PA.

Pantkratz was a two-time first team all-Big Ten and all-America pick during her Hawkeye career. In 1984, she was named the Big Ten’s MVP and Offensive Player of the Year. Pankratz was also named the Big Ten’s Field Hockey Player of the Decade (1982-1992).

On the national scene, Pankratz was a member of the United States Olympic Team in 1988 and 1996, and led Team USA to a pair of Silver Medals in the 1985 and 1987 Pan American Games.

Currently, Pankratz is the head coach at the University of Michigan, where she has a 130-49 (.726) record in eight seasons.

Also included in the Class of 2004 is former Hawkeye assistant coach Patty Shea. Now the head coach at Massachusetts, Shea mentored the Iowa goalkeepers from 1989-1994.
