Iowa City – The University of Iowa field hockey team defeated the Ohio University Bobcats, 3-1, Friday at Grant Field.
The Hawkeyes (2-4) were paced by senior forward Sarah Dawson, who scored a pair of goals. The Berlin, NJ, native has a team-leading five goals and 12 points.
Dawson opened the scoring just over three minutes into the game by converting a pass from Lauren Stiver. Ohio answered back five minutes later when Lindsay Rothenberger scored on a pass from Erica Bundalo on a broken penalty corner.
The Hawkeyes then went on the attack, and drew a penalty stroke during a scramble in front of the Ohio cage. Stiver converted the penalty stroke, her third of the season.
Iowa kept its one-goal lead through most of the second half, until Dawson tipped in a shot from Katherine Vella to give the Hawkeyes a 3-1 lead.
Hawkeye goalkeeper Barb Weinberg made five saves on the day. Freshman back Kadi Sickel also made a defensive save.
Iowa will return to action Sunday, when the Hawkeyes take on New Hampshire Sunday at noon.
