LINCOLN, NE – In the third and final day of competition in the Nebraska Invitational the Hawkeyes came away with four victories in eight matches to improve to 15 victories through the three day event. Iowa showed much improvement in today’s matches against very strong competition.
The Hawkeyes had strong performances from several competitors on Sunday. In doubles matches Iowa had two victorious duos. Kyle Markham and Brett Taylor paired up to defeat Drake’s Jack Frankowicz and Jonathan Tishler (8-3). The other victory in doubles came from Iowa’s Aaron Schaechterle and Andrew Holm. The two defeated Nebraska’s Karl Jones and Joel Reckewey. In singles play the Hawkeyes came up with a pair of victories. Kyle Markham triumphed over Wisconsin’s Fordan Raemisch is straight sets (6-3, 6-3). Markham was the only Hawkeye on Sunday to take victories in both a singles and doubles match. The other Iowa victory in singles came from J.P Ritchie. Ritchie defeated Wisconsin’s Felipe Bellido in straight sets (6-3, 6-2).
The Hawkeyes will continue competition at the ITA Regionals in Ann Arbor, MI on October 21-25.
