IOWA CITY, IA – The University of Iowa women’s rowing team fought through cold temperatures at the 16th annual Head of the Iowa Regatta.
The Hawkeyes best accomplishment today was placing second in the Women’s Open Eight. This was the biggest race of the day and the Iowa A team came up big and just missed first place with a time of 13:44.88. The Minnesota A team, with a time of 13:43.69, just edged out the Hawks by an extremely slim margin.
Iowa had other fine finishes in other races also. In Women’s Open Pair the Iowa B team claimed second with a time of 16:41.62 and the Iowa D team placed third with a time of 17:01.17.
The other top five finishes from Iowa was in the Women’s Open Four and the Women’s Novice Eight. The Iowa A placed fifth in the Open Four with a time of 15:58.22 and in the Novice Eight Iowa A also placed fifth with a time of 16:03.68.
The Head of the Iowa was the final competition of the fall season for the Hawkeyes. Iowa will begin next season’s competition March 18th, 2005. Their first regatta will be in Austin, Texas for the Longhorn Invitational.
