For the third straight year the Iowa Hawkeyes have completed the college football season ranked eighth in the nation. Iowa is No. 8 in both the Associated Press’ and ESPN/USA Today’s final Top 25s.
Iowa has won 38 games over the last four years, which is a new school record. The previous record was 37 established in 1984-87. Iowa’s 31 victories over the last three years is also a new school record for wins over a three-year span. The previous mark was 29 set by Iowa’s 1985-87 teams.

The Hawkeyes – 30-25 winners over LSU in the 2005 Capital One Bowl, Iowa’s third New Year’s Day bowl game in a row – are the highest ranked Big Ten Conference team and join national champion Southern Cal, Oklahoma and Georgia as the only four schools in the nation to have appeared in the Top 10 in each of the last three seasons.
The string of eights matches the most consecutive appearances in the Top 10 ever by the UI. Iowa finished third in 1956, sixth in 1957 and second in 1958. It was also the 11th Top 10 finish in school history.

In APs list, Michigan (14th), Wisconsin (17th) and Ohio State (20th) also represented the Big Ten. The schools were Nos. 12, 18 and 19 in the USA Todal elite list.
