Hawkeyes Fall to No. 20 Notre Dame

NOTRE DAME, IN –

The 57th-ranked Iowa women’s tennis team fell to No. 20 Notre Dame, 7-0, Sunday afternoon. The Hawkeyes were able to secure one doubles match in the loss. Iowa moves to 4-3 overall.

In doubles, Anastasia Zhukova and Hilary Tyler fought hard against Brook Buck and Lauren Connelly, winning 9-7 at the No. 2 spot. Hillary Mintz and Meg Racette had a tough match against top-ranked Catrina and Christian Thompson, falling 8-3.

Racette was the only Hawkeye to take her singles match into three sets. She gave 32nd-ranked Catrina Thompson a challenge at the No. 1 position, but lost, 6-7 (6-8), 7-5, 1-0 (10-6). Mintz faced 60th-ranked Buck, but was unable to gain an edge, losing 6-2, 6-2. Zhukova had her eight-game win streak snapped by Christian Thompson, 6-1, 6-2, at the No. 3 position.

The Hawkeyes will next compete Friday, March 4 when they host Big Ten rival Minnesota.
