RIO VERDE, AZ – The University of Iowa women’s golf team is in fifth place in the 54-hole East/West Rio Verde Invitational today on the par-71 White Wing Golf Course. The Hawkeyes started today’s round in 13th place before rallying in the final round to card a 304 to improve their 36-hole total to 622. Michigan leads the way in a two-round total of 604 strokes.
Senior Liz Bennett leads the Hawkeyes in a tie for second place. Bennett fired a second round 74 to total 147 strokes in 36 holes of play. Sophomore Amy Riepma is in a tie for 26th place with a two-round total of 156. Karla Murra and Shannon Fleming both turned in scores of 161 to finish the day in a tie for 49th.
The Hawkeyes will continue competition tomorrow at 9 a.m. for the final round of the East/West Rio Verde Invitational.
