IOWA CITY, IA – The 58th-ranked Iowa women’s tennis team defeated No. 69 Minnesota, 5-2, Friday evening. The Hawkeyes move to 5-3 overall, 1-0 in the Big Ten.

Iowa swept the doubles competition to earn a point. Milica Veselinovic and Morgan Tuttle swept Marina Bugauenco and Danielle Mousseau, 8-0. At the No. 1 doubles spot, 59th-ranked duo Meg Racette and Hillary Mintz quickly defeated Nischela Reddy and Ida Malmberg, 8-2. Anastasia Zhukova and Hilary Tyler were down 5-2 when they won five straight games and earned the victory in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (5), against Jane Anderson and Lindsay Risebrough.

In singles, the Hawkeyes had some strong competition, but played incredibly well, coming away with four victories. Racette upset 74th-ranked Reddy in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. Zhukova defeated Anderson at the No. 3 spot, 6-0, 3-6, 6-3. At the No. 4 position, Veselinovic handed Mousseau a loss, 6-4, 6-3. Jacqueline Lee won at the No. 6 spot, 6-2, 6-2, against Bugauenco.

The Hawkeyes will compete Sunday when they host Kansas at 10 a.m.
