This Week

The 55th-ranked University of Iowa women’s tennis team (8-5) takes on Michigan Saturday at 11 a.m. Competition will take place at the Michigan Varsity Tennis Center. The following day, the Hawkeyes will compete against Michigan State at 10 a.m.

The Michigan Wolverines

The Wolverines are ranked 41st with a 6-8 record, 1-2 in the Big Ten. Michigan has recorded wins over Alabama, Maryland, Western Michigan and Michigan State. They have lost to Big Ten rivals Wisconsin and Northwestern. Michelle DaCosta is ranked 50th with a 12-11 record. Along with Kara Delicata, they comprise the nation’s 13th-ranked doubles team.

The Michigan State Spartans

The Spartans are 10-5 overall and 0-3 in the Big Ten. Michigan State has lost to every ranked team it’s played, while winning against all unranked teams. Keri Thompson is tied for 100th in the nation with a 16-9 record.

Have We Met Before?

Two Hawkeyes met either Michigan or Michigan State players during fall competition. Hillary Mintz defeated Michigan’s DaCosta and Leanne Rutherford, while Milica Veselinovic won against Michigan State’s Karen Gustafson.

Tyler and Zhukova Double Trouble

Hilary Tyler and Anastasia Zhukova are 9-0 in doubles. They have eight wins at the No. 2 spot, including victories over Notre Dame, Baylor, TCU, Minnesota and Ohio State.

Last Week Notes

The Hawkeyes defeated Ohio State, 6-1. Iowa won the doubles points with victories at the No. 1 and 2 positions. In singles, Meg Racette, Hillary Mintz, Anastasia Zhukova, Milica Veselinovic and Jacqueline Lee all recorded wins.
