BLOOMINGTON, IN – The University of Iowa Women’s Golf Team finished in a three-way tie with Wisconsin and Illinois for seventh at the 19-team Indiana Invitational. The Hawkeyes were in 11th place after yesterday’s first round (333), but fired a final round score of 312 to finish with a total score of 642 and vault to the seventh place tie. The tournament was held on the par-72, Indiana University Golf Course. Notre Dame (620) won the tournament by nine strokes over Grand Valley State (629).
Iowa senior Liz Bennett carded the third-best score in the final round, a one-over par 73, to finish in a tie for fifth with a 36-hole score of 154. Bennett has collected five top-five finishes this season. Freshman Jill Marcum matched a career-best 18-hole score of 76 in today’s final round to help her finish in a tie for 21st with a two-round score of 160. Sophomore Karla Murra stroked a 169 to tie for 33rd. Notre Dame’s Noriko Nakazaki fired a two-over par (146) to win the tournament by only one stoke over Toledo’s Natalie Storck (147).
Iowa returns to action in two weeks when the Hawkeyes compete in the Lady Buckeye Invitational, April 16-17, in Columbus, OH.
