Women's Tennis Defeats Michigan State, 6-1

EAST LANSING, MI –

The 55th-ranked Iowa women’s tennis team defeated Michigan State, 6-1, Sunday afternoon. The Hawkeyes improve to 9-6 overall, 3-1 in the Big Ten.

The Hawkeyes dominated doubles play, notching victories in all three matches. Meg Racette and Hillary Mintz won against Christine Bader and Keri Thompson at the No. 1 spot, 9-7. Anastasia Zhukova and Hilary Tyler extended their record to 11-0, defeating Sarah Andrews and Jessica Baron, 8-6. At the No. 3 position, Milica Veselinovic and Jacqueline Lee downed Karen Gustafson and Pascale Schnitzer, 8-5.

In singles, Iowa took five of six matches. Racette upset No. 100 Keri Thompson in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. At the No. 2 spot, Mintz defeated Christine Bader, 6-1, 7-5. Zhukova held onto the win against Pascale Schnitzer, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (8). Veselinovic moved to 23-5 with a victory over Shelley Brady, 6-2, 6-2. At the No. 5 spot, Lee defeated Jessica Baron, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (8).

The Hawkeyes will return to action Saturday, April 9 at Northwestern.
