WEST LAFAYETTE, IN – University of Iowa swimmer Jennifer Skolaski and diver Nancilea Underwood finished the first day of competition at the NCAA Championships.
Skolaski broke the school record in the 200 IM, swimming a 2:02.93 in the preliminaries. Her time broke the previous record of 2:03.98 by Allison Lyle in 2002. Skolaski placed 43rd and improved her career-best time by a little over one second. In the finals, Auburn’s Kirsty Coventry won the event with a time of 1:54.37.
Underwood placed third in the finals of one-meter diving. She finished with a score of 324.9. Underwood was third after the preliminaries as well, scoring a 302.10. Hawaii’s Qiong Jie Huang won the event with a score of 327.
Skolaski will compete tomorrow in the 100 back, while Underwood will participate in the 3-meter competition.
