This Week

The 54th-ranked University of Iowa women’s tennis team (9-6 overall, 3-1 Big Ten) competes at Northwestern Saturday at 11 a.m. The following day, Iowa travels to Madison to take on Wisconsin at 11 a.m.

The Northwestern Wildcats

The Wildcats are second in the nation with a 15-2 overall record, 5-0 in the Big Ten. Audra Cohen is ranked third in singles, while Cristelle Grier is 16th and Alexis Prousis is 66th. In doubles, Grier and Cohen comprise the top-ranked team, with Prousis and Kristi Roemer 36th.

The Wisconsin Badgers

The Badgers are ranked 33rd with an 11-5 overall mark, 3-2 in the Big Ten. Wisconsin has Big Ten wins over Penn State, Michigan and Michigan State, while suffering losses against Indiana and Northwestern. Caitlin Burke is ranked 83rd in singles and Katie McGaffigan is 91st.

Have We Met Before?

Three Hawkeye players competed against four players from either Northwestern or Wisconsin at ITA Midwest Regionals. Hillary Mintz lost to Northwestern’s Alexis Prousis in the quarterfinals. Milica Veselinovic defeated Wisconsin’s Caitlin Burke, but lost to Northwestern’s Audra Cohen. Anastasia Zhukova lost to Northwestern’s Jamie Peisel.

Tyler and Zhukova Double Trouble

Hilary Tyler and Anastasia Zhukova are 11-0 in doubles. They have ten wins at the No. 2 spot, including victories over Notre Dame, Baylor, Michigan, Minnesota and Ohio State.

Veselinovic on Fire

Freshman Milica Veselinovic is on an eight-match win streak that began against Minnesota. Veselinovic has a 12-3 dual record (4-0 Big Ten) and was named Big Ten Player of the Week last week.

Last Weekend Notes

The Hawkeyes split a pair of matches. Iowa lost to Michigan, 6-1. Milica Veselinovic earned the lone Iowa point. The Hawkeyes came back the next day and defeated Michigan State, 6-1. Iowa won all the doubles and five of the singles matches.
