West Point, NY – The seventh-ranked University of Iowa men’s gymnastics team failed to qualify for the NCAA Team Championships, taking fourth place at the NCAA Session II Qualifier Thursday evening at the Holleder Center in West Point, NY. The Hawkeyes posted a team score of 218.725, crowned four event champions, and send two athletes to the all-around final and six to the individual event finals.

Hawkeye junior Michael Reavis was crowned Session II all-around champion, advancing to the all-around finals tomorrow evening. He posted a six-event score of 54.250. Senior Linas Gaveika will join Reavis, as he took second in the all-around competition with a score of 53.475.

Reavis was also crowned floor exercise champion (9.7) and tied for first place on vault (9.575). He also posted an 11th place finish on horizontal bar (9.2). Gaveika was the Hawkeyes’ top performer on both parallel bars and horizontal bar. He tied for ninth on horizontal bar (9.25) and took 10th on parallel bars 9.0).

Senior Kenny Lin was outstanding on rings for the Hawkeyes. He was crowned event champion, shattering his previous University of Iowa record of 9.7 with a 9.85 performance.

Senior Shawn Stone qualified on floor with a fourth-place score of 9.35. Freshman Curtis Kleffman will represent Iowa on pommel horse, as he tied for eighth with a score of 9.35. Rounding out the individual event qualifiers was freshman Tom Buese, who took 19th on horizontal bar with a score of 8.925.

Reavis and Gaveika will represent the Hawkeyes in the all-around final, held tomorrow evening at 4:20 p.m. The Individual Event Finals will be held Saturday evening at 6 p.m. All competitions will be held at the Holleder Center in West Point, NY.
