Hawkeyes Travel To Ann Arbor

THIS WEEK: The University of Iowa rowing team will travel to Ann Arbor, MI, Saturday to compete against host team Michigan in the morning and Michigan State in the afternoon. The Hawkeyes will compete in the V8+, 2V8+, V4+, and N8+ against both teams.

LAST TIME OUT: Minnesota went on to sweep all five races against Iowa, including a defeat of Iowa’s #15 ranked Varsity Eight boat. The V8+ boat consisted of Vanessa Sheehan, Michelle Trannel, Lydia McGee, Jessica Mcbride, Marije Van Amersfoort, Emily Vail, Carolyn O’Meara, Emily Wagstrom, and Nikki Stob. They were involved in the closest race of the day losing by a little more than a second.

HEAD COACH: Mandi Kowal is in her 11th year as head coach of the Hawkeyes and has led Iowa to the NCAA Championships three of the past seven years. Kowal was a two-time rowing World Champion in the Women’s Lightweight Four without coxswain in 1986 and 1987. She was named Female Athlete of the Year in 1987 by the U.S. Rowing Association and was inducted into the United States Rowing Hall of Fame in 1997.
