Hawkeyes Fourth After First Round

ANN ARBOR, MI – The Iowa Hawkeyes are in fourth place after the first round of the Big Ten Women’s Golf Championships played this morning on the par-72 (5,966 yards) University of Michigan Golf Course. The Hawkeyes posted a solid first round score of 308, considering the cold and wet conditions. Iowa is only two strokes from third place Michigan State (306).

Sophomore Karla Murra carded a four-over par (76) to pace the Hawkeyes. Freshman Jill Marcum and sophomore Amy Riepma both fired a five-over par (77), while senior Liz Bennett finished round one with a six-over par (78). Riepma was one of only three players to record an eagle in round one. Riepma carded an eagle on the par-5, 419-yard fourth hole.

The three-time defending champion Ohio State Buckeyes (297) lead Purdue (301) by four strokes after 18 holes. Purdue’s Onnarin Sattayabanphot leads the championships after shooting an even-par 72.

Iowa placed eighth at the Big Ten Championships last year, played in Columbus, OH.
